Medvedev Stuns Alcaraz to Meet Djokovic in U.S. Open Finals
Carlos
Alcaraz was defeated by Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to go to the US Open
final, where he will take on Novak Djokovic.
In
less than two hours, the second-seeded Medvedev won 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, never
letting the 19-year-old Alcaraz find his stride. Using a methodical approach,
Medvedev won 78% of his first-serve points and broke Alcaraz's serve four
times.
Having
lost to Rafael Nadal in the 2019 US Open final, Medvedev is playing in his
second US Open final. He will be aiming to win his second Grand Slam
championship and exact revenge on the loss.
Top
seed Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to advance to the
championship match. Djokovic has won the US Open nine times altogether and is
the current champion. He is also the best player in the world.
The
The Djokovic-Medvedev final is a rematch of the Djokovic-won in five sets in
the Australian Open final in January. They are facing off in their fourth Grand
Slam final, with Djokovic holding a 3-1 head-to-head advantage.
The
championship game will be held on September 11th, Sunday.
